Fibre Balance: Frequently Asked Questions
I've been taking the Herbal Fiberblend for years. Why should I switch to FibreBalance?
Both Herbal Fiberblend and FibreBalance products are excellent for maintaining colon health by:
- Reducing transit time
- Providing laxative support
- Promoting digestive health
- Providing bulk fiber
- Providing water-soluble fiber sources (helps with maintaining healthy cholesterol & blood sugar levels)
Some reasons in favor of trying FibreBalance:
- 50% more fiber per serving than Herbal Fiberblend
- 3 sources of fiber (oat, flax, inulin) vs. one for Herbal Fiberblend (psyllium)
- Lignans found in flax seed (the richest source) have anti-cancer effects against hormone sensitive cancers (breast, prostate).
- Inulin helps support friendly bacteria in the bowel
- Beneficial for IBS (irritable bowel), ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease
- Can be used by those with Celiac disease (gluten intolerance)
- Excellent for weight loss programs (less chance of interaction with medications due to fewer herbs, plus more fiber than Herbal Fiberblend)
- Better tasting, less grit than Herbal Fiberblend (most people agree with this)
Why is AIM offering another fiber product?
Due to changes in health supplement regulations, AIM Canada embarked on formulating a superior fiber product that would be accepted for daily consumption by Canadian health regulations. We chose ingredients that are all grown and processed in North America . The result is AIM FibreBalance.
At the same time, AIM Canada went about reformulating Herbal Fiberblend in the hope that it would be acceptable to new Canadian health regulations. This was done because the new regulations are based on scientific monographs (official detailed analysis) and each ingredient has its own monograph. As a result, two ingredients were removed from the Canadian formulation of Herbal Fiberblend:
Licorice root - due to NHPD (Natural Health Products Directorate) classification as an herb requiring a warning about its potential dangerous effects on blood pressure, it was removed. Granted, the amount in a serving of Herbal Fiberblend was only about 20% of recommended therapeutic dosage, but we would still have had to print numerous warnings as well as "May be used up to 4-6 weeks" so we removed it from formula.
Cascara Sagrada - Natural Health Product Directorate (Health Canada ) requires that this herb be limited to no more than 7 days use. Hence, by including it in Herbal Fiberblend, the label would have had to state, "May be used up to 7 days". Also the formula, if accepted by NHPD, would have been classified as a laxative and the name Herbal Fiberblend would have been in conflict.
In summary, because all the ingredients must be compatible, these two ingredients were removed. If we had left them in, we would have had numerous warnings on the label, and the usage directions would have deferred to 7 days maximum due to the Cascara Sagrada.
